How Jojoba Oil Saves the Whale?

Wild whales were hunted in the ocean and its oil was mainly for producing lamp fuel in Europe and America. By the late 18th and 19th century whaling became a highly competitive business and in 20th century it was at its peak. It is said that by the late 1930’s approx. 50,000 + whales were being killed every year. Whale oil was used in large quantities into the cosmetics industries in the form of soaps and alcohols. Moreover, during two world wars whale fat was used for producing explosives. To feed the market, rise in consumerism, to earn more money and to fulfil the desires of the people tens of thousands of whales were hunted and killed each year. All this whale hunting by (the so called developed nations of that time) resulted in causing massive damage to the whale population.

Wild Whales in the Ocean. Before the ban on hunting of whales its oil or fat was extensively used in soap, cosmetic, lubricants.

In such a sad situation it the solution was to find an alternate to the whale fat or whale oil and also to ban hunting on the whale. U.S. banned the hunting of sperm whales in 1972. That’s when it was discovered that jojoba oil was not only a substitute for sperm whale oil but that it was in fact superior to it. That’s why Jojoba oil is called the savior of whales. Tests showed that lubricants made from jojoba oil worked the same or better than those made with whale oil. Jojoba oil and whale oil both have high oxidative stability, excellent lubricity, relatively constant viscosity at a wide range of temperatures, and good stability in high pressure processes. The unique structure of Golden Jojoba oil is similar to the structure of sperm whale oil. Also, Golden Jojoba oil is apprx. 25% similar to the human sebum. Sebum is an oily substance produced in the sebaceous glands. It mixes with fat molecules and lipids to form a protective coating on the skin’s surface which hydrate the skin and protect it from potentially harmful pathogens. Jojoba oil was found to be an excellent alternative to whale oil. It not only replaced whale oil but also outperformed it.
